MY NAME IS PEGGATHY GABRIEL AND I AM AN EGOSCUE certified postural alignment therapist. I learned about postural alignment therapy when my pain had taken over my life. I tried acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, physical therapy and eventually, surgery. There were many visits to the emergency room due to severe attacks of pain and I felt so powerless before I discovered how to change my posture and my gait.

Why was I in so much pain? I was born with hip dysplasia..and because of this, my pelvis was constantly misaligned. This misalignment eventually caused severe degeneration of my hips and excruciating lower back pain. In school I was nicknamed "swivel hips" and "rubber legs" because of my altered gait. What do you think a lifetime of swiveling your hips can do to your spine and the rest of your body alignment? By the time I was fifty, I was told I needed to have spinal surgery...because the pain I was experiencing was in my lower back. I finally met a doctor who looked at my X-rays and said that the cause of my pain was due to the degeneration in my hips. I am a very physical person and wanted to still be able to hike, dance and go camping, so I did my research and found out that there was a type of surgery for the hips called Hip Resurfacing which is much less invasive and would allow me to recover much faster than the total hip replacement. I even wrote a book about my experience of flying to Belgium to have the surgery, which is now approved in the USA. The surgery went well and I recovered quickly..but the thing that they don't tell you is that when you have surgery and your gait is altered, it is necessary to start engaging muscles that you haven't always engaged, and your posture really needs to be treated so that you don't just recreate the original problem..or new ones! After entering a labyrinth of discovery, intertwined with medical and surgical issues, the pain worsened and I finally found an Egoscue therapist. After only one session of Egoscue I knew that this therapy was going to be a permanent part of my life. Now, I am able to dance, and walk up the mountain without limping! I am better now than i have been during my entire life. Also the best part of is that I am able to help others to overcome their own pain and have a better life! This is what i love to do.
